The Bacchae relocates Euripides tragedy to WW2 London, a city under blackout and strain. Dionysus, God of ecstasy, returns disguised as a man to a society that prizes control and survival above all else. As bombed streets fill with music and frenzy, women abandon their homes for nights of ritual liberation. Pentheus, a military general who sees music as disorder and liberation as threat, vows to crush this uprising. Fusing myth, music hall culture, and wartime imagery, The Bacchae asks what happens when joy is repressed, the sacred denied, and the human need for release left to erupt unchecked.
